Both rigs are amazing for the price. I can't imagine a kid wh'o's buying his first rig not being happy with that... I remember when i was younger... Not the same story ;)
In the US i think the only complete budget rig for the price would be a squier affinity starter pack which is actually a great starter set. Also, on the case of tuners, phone apps work pretty well in a pinch
I really like these videos. They are fun but also very instructive. We can see and ear what we can do and can sound like with the gear. Keep on rocking guys !
I'm not a T type or a S type fan. Guillaume's rig ticked all the boxes to be a complete package, to be the winner, but Kris's rig won the looks + tone battle.
I'd call that a draw - both had perfectly usable practice rigs for the money. Would be interested what you'd actually pick as a perfect starter rig without the price cap.
Because of this video I decided to buy my fist guitar at the age of nearly 60. Ordered the Fender Squirer and the Mooer Hornet and can't wait that the postman rings the bell.
The tone is indeed in the fingers. At least in YOUR fingers 🤣. Btw fantastic vidéo, lot of fun and lot of good vibes to all begginers and guys like me, who prefer owning eight 200 euros guitars instead of one at 1600 euros 😉
I remember when i was about 14-16 starting for that amount, l had a bad quality strat copy and a 25W Roland amp (which was pretty good) , pretty quickly changed for an Aria Pro II, where i put DiMarzio distortion pu, which did cost me the amount of the first rig all together lol...still regret selling that Aria...sniff
I play bass so am obviously not a real musician, but when I lower myself to the six string world I play a Yamaha Tele. Telecasters make the best noise, Yamaha make incredible instruments.
My first electric rig was under $250 (US) a Washburn strat clone (SSS) and a 15w Crate amp. Cheap nylon strap and cable (the shop tossed in handful of free picks in the gig bag.) I got a free cleaning set from Washburn (polish, string cleaner, and the cloth) because they were running a promo that summer (this was 1994… I may be dating myself).
It's funny the combination you two chose, as I started with an affinity stratocaster and a mooer hornet ahah! It was great for me cause I didn't know what sound I wanted, so chose it for its versatility. Great comparison, I'm curious what you would buy with a different budget
Both are great suggestions, thank, you! I would prefer Kris' proposal, because IMHO a beginner has less to struggle with a Telly, and that Hornet amp is a nice surprise.
Guillaume is the winner. I don't like the clean sound from the moer amp whereas than the katana mini is great except for the high gain where It's not very pleasant. And also It's possible to combine this amp with the nux mighty plug amp on the clean Channel. It works fine and It offers a lot of more options and It's really light and portable 👍
Great stuff fella's and both very credible options at a ridiculously low price point. Extremely close shout but, being a massive " Tele " fan, I have to go with Kris. Those Harley Benton T's are sensational guitar's which we could only have dreamed about when we were starting out. Love the wee Mooer amp too - it sounds great and looks very cool.
Cool vid. The one thing you could add is playing each other's rig without changing settings to see how much is in the hands. I think the Tele rig was just a little better.
Guillaume's Katana mini amp definitely won on the amp side, at least to my tastes, the bullet's sound is OK but when I tried one I felt the neck not be be as "refined" as the affinity's one is, while I have tried several harley benton ST-styles and they are really OK, so on that side I would prefer Kris' guitar. Both rigs are awesome tho, if I had such gear when I started I would have been the happiest boy in town and I definitely missed the mini katana, that's really badass!
Well, being a Tele guy and because that little rig sounds awesome I would declare Kris the winner but because I'm french and G.'s playing is awesome I'll call it a draw! Anyone buying one of those rigs to start with will be a winner!
A question not necesarily for this video, but as the Katana got featured here, I was wondering could you please explain (I mean *really* explain) the differences between 'gain', 'volume' and 'master' (a Katana 50 has these)? Boldog új évet! 🙂
Kris, As always both Guillaume and the mighty Kris did a fantastic job on a budget. Both sounds fantastic even with the short chord 😄. Amazing how low priced your gear can be.
Team Kris here! Guillame did a great job here too, but my man is Kris! \m/ It’s funny to see you have fun, I love it! It’s really inspiring and entertaining too!
Ok i am Suprised...really...i mean as i bought my first Budget guitar 2002 ans amp, cable etc. I switched really fast ( 6 Month later ) on a used Standard Gibson USA in Black and a fender tube amp because the first rig Sounds like garbage!!! So i hat to spend more to buy good Equipment... by the way the Amp and the Paula still at my Collection... the squier and the trans amp did not... 😅 but this stuff you played in the Video Sounds top qualitativ! Is the cheap Equipment so good today isnt it?
Kris. Mainly because it is the better looking rig. The guitar especially. For parents though, for visits to schools and teachers, Kris' just looks impressive, especially to those that don't know brand names. The Harley Benton HB-20MFX probably is an option now I guess.
Thanks buddy! Yeah right? The HB does not look like a beginner's guitar at all. It just looks super pretty and it was so easy to play too. I'm impressed! Cheers //Kris
Also true! That works as long as you're alone and nobody makes any noise while you're tuning. 😅 Which will never happen in a rehearsal room, haha! Cheers //Kris
Such luck we have very informative and detailed time stamps for all of our videos. 👍 You can get the full experience if you're interested in the human element or just jump to the useful bits and grab the infos you're looking for. Cheers //Kris
It's the 2021 last challenge video between you, we do not want discord, so both of you are winners!
As much as I like the HB's colour scheme, Guillaume wins on tone ... Proof that the length doesn't matter that much ;)
Great stuff. Can you do one for 500 and 1000?
That's a great idea, we'll get on it in 2022 🤘 //G
I also suggest 500 and 1000. Great stuff!
Another proof that even a stick will sound perfect in the hands of a master. Guys you're awesome, thank you and Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for the kind words 🤗 Happy new year!! //G
squier bullet and katana mini sounded clean af
Both rigs are amazing for the price. I can't imagine a kid wh'o's buying his first rig not being happy with that... I remember when i was younger... Not the same story ;)
Yeah, it was sooooo different back then. This is awesome to see! Cheers //Kris
In the US i think the only complete budget rig for the price would be a squier affinity starter pack which is actually a great starter set.

I'm not a T type or a S type fan. Guillaume's rig ticked all the boxes to be a complete package, to be the winner, but Kris's rig won the looks + tone battle.
All I care about is the looks and the tone so I'm happy with your verdict! :) Cheers //Kris
I'd call that a draw - both had perfectly usable practice rigs for the money. Would be interested what you'd actually pick as a perfect starter rig without the price cap.
Thanks a lot David! I'd love to make that video. Cheers //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses can you look at my comment please and tell me if that is really you?
Kinda nutty that one can get a decent kit like these for a mere $250. Going only by looks, I’d go with the Tele.
Nice interaction between Kris and Guillaume.
I love it!
Merci Jean-Luc :) //G
Pia, REVV Gen120 full stack, Eventide h9000 wait 250 not 250k 🥴I’ll try again later.
Would have to call it a tie, great choices by both! Very versatile rigs for people on a budget! Well done guys! 😊👍
Thanks buddy! And by "tie" you mean Kris won, right? 🤣 Happy new year (soon)! //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Of course you won but Guil did do pretty well 🤪
Because of this video I decided to buy my fist guitar at the age of nearly 60.
Ordered the Fender Squirer and the Mooer Hornet and can't wait that the postman rings the bell.
next challenge: 25 000€ rig. we wanna see them murphys and them masterbuilts 😂
OMG I so wanna see that too 🤩//G
I’ve my guitars and amps but would kill for either solution if I started over. Great playing guys.
The tone is indeed in the fingers. At least in YOUR fingers 🤣. Btw fantastic vidéo, lot of fun and lot of good vibes to all begginers and guys like me, who prefer owning eight 200 euros guitars instead of one at 1600 euros 😉

Hard to choose 🤔 150e for roasted maple 🤯. HSS maybe covers more bases. Either. Both!
Boringly equal - and a fitting end to a year of fun videos - thank you both so much for lifting the gloom!
Thank you so much Pete! //G

Send me a 2500€ Rig and I'll still sound like shit.
The strat rig was pretty impressive for this price... Definitely worth it, I wish I had this kind of quality when I start

Nice video and great challenge. I really dig that Gilli-Vanilli (yes that's one for the next Shirt;) ) is playing "my curse" by Killswitch 😍.
great tones on both rigs...but I gotta go with Kris...i am sucker for the tele !!
I get it... He does make them teles sound incredible :) //G
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses haha dont Guillaume you are still a cool fella..cheers from Canada ! you guys shoukd traded guitars to try each others rigs !
Kris,

11:09 Nice Killswitch Engage riff!

Yeah man, now we're talking! :D Thanks for the comment, we really appreciate it! //Kris
I love to slag the French, and I prefer teles to strats, but the katana amp and John Mayer lick edges me towards G on this.
Both rigs sounded great, but Guillaume got the most for the money. And I'm not just saying that because my first guitar was a Bullet Strat.
Thank you so much Jeffrey, and I'm not just saying that because I also think I won... 😂//G
How about the new Harley Benton modelling amps, do they sound any good?
They both sounded great. Well done.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! //G

Giom has the complete package
12:16 hahahahaha yep a tele can't do djent in case you wondering
With the income level in Germany, this 250 EURO budget is really a low price for lots of fun.
Jessica for the win! Just kidding! Guillaume.
Hahaha if I'm winning you can call me anything you want 😂 Thanks João! //G
You can use your phone for a tuner
Also true! That works as long as you're alone and nobody makes any noise while you're tuning. 😅 Which will never happen in a rehearsal room, haha! Cheers //Kris
Harleys r guud tho, and so underrated (especially by those expensive-gear elitists)
Guillaume won that one
Seriously, 7:34 before you hear any guitars?

i can see you guys watch andertons
G is the better!
Hey, and what about my feelings? 😂 Okay okay, I'll accept your vote. G did really good. Cheers //Kris
The shorter the cable, the lower the resistance
Haha, the guitars were very predictable/ the Tele 😅
Yeah... we're not too subtle about our guitar preferences 😂 //G
1st
Congratulations!
impressive!
Wow
